Photograph includes Dr. Zealy Mazique of Wabbaseka and Pine Bluff, Jefferson County, Arkansas, who graduated from Meharry in 1904. The Meharry Medical College is located in Nashville, Davidson County, Tennessee. Founded in 1876, Meharry Medical College is the oldest private institution for the education of African American health professionals in the United States. Meharry Medical was originally a college within Walden University, a historic African American college that was founded in 1865. In 1915, the faculty of Meharry Medical College decided to separate from the rest of Walden University, but remained on the old campus. Walden University (later called Walden College) closed in 1925, but Meharry Medical College is still in existence as of 2001.
